Feel free to use this post to give feedback on how I play D.

The world)

In 1999, the world ended. Humanity, swept up in conflicts and wars, finally went too far and a nuclear holocaust swept the world, reducing much of it to waste and humanity to try and survive in the nightmare they had created. Years turned to decades turned to centuries, and instead of picking up the pieces, humanity fell to savagery.

Which was when the vampires stepped in. Their exact origin wasn't clear, and some claimed that they had been around since the beginning of mankind, but regardless what was clear was that they had been waiting for this moment. Aware of the path humanity was taking, the vampires had created their own plans and resources, enough to rebuild the ruined world and craft a new one from the remains. With themselves as the rulers of it.

Led by the first of them, Dracula, known as their Sacred Ancestor, they created a society ruled by vampires and named themselves the Nobility. While they subjugated humanity, they did succeed in restoring the world and finding ways to better it, advancing science to levels beyond what was originally lost. They created space travel, artificial intelligence, genetic manipulation, cybernetics, advanced weaponry and defences, and complex systems to control almost every aspect of the world around them.

But it was far from benevolent. For all that the Nobles, as they called themselves, created technologies that could benefit the world, they also seemed to revel in their dominance of it. They would genetically engineer monstrous creatures and release them into the world out of sport, uncaring what threat they might present to others, and even on creating ways that meant they could sustain themselves without needing to feed on humans, many of them still preferred the hunt and the power that came from treating humans as prey.

For a while this was the world that humans were forced to endure, but around the year 4000, it became clear that the Nobility, despite all their efforts, were declining. Even with their powers and advances, they were few and their numbers were dwindling. Humanity rose up against them and reclaimed the world for themselves once more, hunting and killing many of the vampires inhabiting their capital and driving others into hiding.

Now the year is 12,090 and the once great inventions of the Nobles are often forgotten and left where they stand, technologies forgotten in human memory and those Nobles that might still be able to make use of it few and far between. Humans try to eke out a living as much as they can in a world now inhabited by strange, monstrous creatures, making use of what technologies still available to them.

Hunters have risen in numbers as a result of this new world, men and women who make it their business to protect others from the numerous threats on the frontier, and none are as skilled as those hunters that specialise in hunting vampires.

D's history)

D was born as a part of the Sacred Ancestor's experiments into combining the Nobility with humans in an attempt to halt the inevitable decline of vampires. One half of a pair of conjoined twins, D was unaware of his brother through most of his life, as they were separated and the second D kept confined. At some point in his past D was given the parasite in his left hand and departed the research facility that he was born in, believing he had destroyed it.

Beyond this and a few other minor points, D's past is largely unknown. While it is never stated outright, it is heavily implied that D's father is the Sacred Ancestor himself and this implication is often used to explain why D is able to go so far above and beyond what other vampires and dhampirs are capable of. It's also implied that D spent some time as a possible lord of the Nobility himself prior to receiving the parasite and that he has been around for roughly 10,000 years.

D's relationship with the Sacred Ancestor is also difficult to pin down; by turns he seems angered by what has been done in the quest to prolong the reign of the Nobility and other times he is almost melancholic and reflective when speaking of him.

Regardless the relationship, one thing that is clear is that part of D's travels is a search for his creator, although what exactly he intends to do when he finds him is anyone's guess.

Powers)

Immortality

Like all vampires and dhampirs, D is immortal unless destroyed and does not age in the slightest. He is estimated to be at least 10,000 years old but always appears as a young man of approximately 20.

Vampirism

As a dhampir, D has both positives and negative aspects from both his parents. While he can consume food if he chooses, D also needs to feed on human blood semi-regularly, although through a lifetime of practise and effort he has managed to reduce his need for blood down to approximately once a week. For preference, D drinks blood capsules, a small capsule of artificial blood containing a mix of everything his body requires that can be mixed with water and ingested.

That said, D will occasionally bite and feed from people if necessary, although it's rare and he has largely done so when he plans to turn them into a thrall.

Another aspect of his vampirism is that when D is suitably angered or tastes blood (usually he'll use his own if he is doing this on purpose), he will undergo a transformation to take on a true vampiric appearance. His eyes will take on a red appearance and his fangs will lengthen considerably. This bloodlust also increases D's natural abilities significantly.

Power Scaling

D's abilities seem to increase over time so that the books can hit ridiculous levels likely due to the fact that he was created to always be improving and becoming more powerful. So while abilities in the rest of this section get to godmode levels, it's really a sliding scale of where D is in his journey as to what maximum levels he's capable of.

Regeneration

Due to his heritage, and possibly a little additional genetic tampering, D is capable of surviving and regenerating from a frankly ridiculous amount of damage, including but not limited to being torn into pieces, impaled, hit with a nuclear blast, struck by a meteor, been covered in magma and then frozen... With this in mind it's probably no surprise how reckless he can be.

Resurrection

On top of his regeneration, D is also capable of returning to life even when other vampires would be hard-pressed to do so. Part of this is due to his connection to the parasite in his left hand, which has bought him back from being staked in the heart previously, but D appears to have some innate ability to resurrect himself as well as he has managed to do so without any aid.

Superhuman Strength

D's strength is, also quite frankly, ridiculous. He's able to break and cut solid metal, stone... he even levels a mountain at one point.

Superhuman Speed

Much like his strength, D's speed seems to be almost limitless. He's able to move fast enough to leave after images of himself if he chooses, regularly blocks bullets, arrows, and other missiles out of the air, and even cuts laser beams in two.

Superhuman Senses

All of D's senses are incredibly heightened, allowing him to, for example, hear the sound of a carriage moving miles away in quiet conditions and sense things that others can't. Additionally, the parasite can also sense energy and seems to be able to perceive things that D can't, such as looking through seemingly solid walls to sense where an enemy is and how to get to them. This means that even if D can't sense something himself, there's a good chance that the parasite can.

Weaknesses)

Sunlight

While D can walk in sunlight, too much exposure builds up in his system eventually and runs the risk of causing him to experience sun sickness. Sun sickness can hit at any time and without warning, leaving D weak and making it difficult for him to defend himself as well as running the risk of death. The cure is for D to bury himself to the neck in the earth and rest, and he continues to be vulnerable during this time.

Inventory)

Amulet

The amulet features a large blue stone and appears otherwise uninteresting. It's true purpose, however, is to disable any hostile technology D encounters, allowing him to approach the defences of vampires without immediately being shot down by computer guided weaponry. It additionally allows him to gain entry through similarly guarded doors; essentially all technology will see him as an ally and allow him passage and safety. The stone glows with a bright light when it is activated.

Longsword

A longsword with a slightly curved blade. It's seen a lot of use and is well-worn. There is nothing unusual or particular about this blade. D replaces it several times throughout his travels.

Utility Belt

Like Batman it's full of gear D uses, including caltrops, wooden needles, a micro computer, capsules, knives, etc.

Wooden Needles

Essentially slim needles of unfinished wood about a foot long. D throws them at speed for staking on the go.

Micro Computer

A tiny, very high powered computer. Rare to see in D's world, it's capable of analysing chemicals, DNA, and other data. D also has several small cylinders for taking and uploading samples into it.

Electronic Lamp

A cylindrical travel lamp approximately 6in x 2in. It provides light and heat, has a built in thermostat and can be opened to use as a refrigeration unit... somehow.

Caltrops

A number of small iron balls with spikes, can be used on the ground to slow down prey or pursuers, or thrown.

Knives

Like, several knives. For stabbing.

Wire, Hook, Thread

Used in various traps and other tricks, the thread and wire are as fine as spider silk and extremely durable.

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit holding all manner of items to treat injuries... except it's been so long since D bought it without ever needing to use it that the contents have expired.

Capsules

A number of small capsules that contain freeze dried blood plasma and nutrients. D adds them to water and drinks them for nourishment. While they are a common source of food for dhampirs, they are very difficult to come across and have to be purchased from the black market or from a less than scrupulous doctor.

Blanket

Large enough to cover a group of people, resistant to fire, water, cold, electricity, and heat.

An ungodly amount of money

Why does he even work for money, we don't know.
